Private Speed Basics

What is Private Speed?
Private Speed is the broadband video on demand channel from Private. The idea of Private Speed is simple, instead of buying a DVD and waiting to have it shipped to you, you can pay to view the entire movie from our site and have instant access to the movies that you want to see! All you need is Windows Media Player or DivX player and broadband connection.

What software do I need?
To use Private Speed Streaming, you will need to have the Windows Media Player 9 Series installed. To find out more information on Windows Media Player, please click here.

To use Downloadable DivX, you will need to have the DivX Player 1.x installed.

What connection speed do I need?
We recommend that you have DSL/Cable connecting at 350k or greater. Because we encode our video at a very high level of quality, the files are very large, thus requiring more bandwidth. You can not view a movie with a dial-up connection (56k). If you are trying to stream a movie on a 56k dial-up, you will experience problems and we will not issue a refund to you.

What are the different pricing options for Private Speed?
All movies tickets are good for 7 days of unlimited viewing on either Streaming Video or Downloadable DivX movies.
1 movie ticket - €9.95
3 movie tickets - €26.86 (a 10% savings)
5 movie tickets - €42.28 (a 15% savings)

What is the difference between streaming and downloading a movie?
Streaming a movie on Private Speed is done using Windows Media compression format. The benefits of streaming a movie are you can begin watching your movie immediately, you can begin watching it from different points in the movie, and it does not require you to have extra space on your hard drive.
Downloading a movie on Private Speed is done using the DivX™ compression format. Downloaded movies may take a little longer to download as downloaded file sizes are larger, but the results will be a high-quality full-screen viewing experience. However, the DivX Player™ does allow your file to buffer, which enables you to start watching your DivX™ encoded movie before the entire file has been downloaded. The length of your wait depends on your bandwidth connection. Those with cable modems may not notice a difference in download/playback time. Once downloaded, you can watch the movie again and again as long as your rental period has not expired. You just need to be connected to verify your viewing rights and it will run from your PC.

How old do I have to be to purchase a movie on Private Speed?
You must be 18 or older to view our streaming videos.

Can I purchase more than one movie at a time?
Yes. All of your Private Speed movies will be on the 'My Account' history page and your time for each movie will not start until you acquire a license for each movie. That means that you could buy a 3 pack of movies, activate the first one today and watch it for 7 days and activate the second movie when your first movie expires or watch both at the same time. Each movie ticket begins when you start watching the movie!

If I do not have a credit card can I still use the site?
Yes, you can use your telephone bill for payment when viewing PrivateSpeed. To find out more about our telephone billing system, click here.


Operating Private Speed

How do I use Private Speed?
  1. Log into your Private Speed account. If you do not have an account with us, click here to set one up - It's Free!
  2. After logging into your account, visit our homepage to view a directory of movies available.
  3. Once you have found a movie(s) that you would like to view, click the "Stream Now" or the "Download DivX" button.
  4. If you have tickets in your account, then you will be asked to confirm to activate your movie. If you do not have tickets in your account, you must first purchase from our several ticket options in order to begin viewing your movie.
  5. To purchase tickets, simply choose which pack you would like and choose Next
  6. Now that you have completed your order (assuming that your credit card was accepted), it's time to watch your movies. To view a movie, simply browse the site, choose any movie, and choose Watch Now. To activate your 7-day viewing period for a title and confirm your selection of the movie. This will activate the title and start you time for the movie you have selected to watch.

    NOTE: The viewing period for a movie does not start until you start watching the movie. After purchasing a movie ticket, it's up to you to decide when to start your viewing period for each movie.

What happens when I Stream a movie?
1. Once you have selected a movie, clicked on the "Stream Now" button and then activated it, you will see the following message; "Logging in and registering your Windows Media Player with our content server. Please wait.."
2.The message will quickly be followed by a grey system message pop-up, which is normal and is no cause for concern. The pop-up will prompt you to confirm that you wish to obtain a content licence. Click 'Yes' and the pop-up will dissapear leaving your Privatespeed movie console which will begin playing your movie shortly.

**Please ensure that you have 'Pop-ups' enabled in your browser, or you will not be able to view the movie.**

Can I use Private Speed on a Mac?
No, you must be using a PC running windows to use our streaming and DivX technology.

Can I fast forward, pause and rewind my movie?
Yes. You can fast-forward, pause and rewind while streaming or downloading one of our videos.

For what period of time can I view my movie?
Once you activate your movie by clicking "Stream Now" or "Download DivX" and confirming that you would like to use a ticket you have a three day viewing period to watch your movie.

How many times can I watch the movie?
You can watch the movie as many times as you like until your license expires. To view how much time you have left on your movies, simply go to "My Account" and under Current Movies you will see what movies you have available for viewing.

When can I begin viewing my movie?
Your time starts when you click on the "Stream Now" button and then confirm that you would like to use on of your movie tickets. After you activate your movie you have 7 days to view it until your license expires. Your "My Account" page will show all of the movies you have bought, which ones you have activated and how much time you have left on each movie.

Billing & Cost

What does Private Speed cost?
All movies tickets are good for 7 days of unlimited viewing of either a Streaming or DivX Downloadable movie.

How will my credit card be billed?
Your card will be billed as PR-VTE for any streaming movies and iBill for DivX movies.

Watching movies via "Pay Per Minute" Access

What exactly is the telephone option and how do I use it?
Our broadband solution allows you to buy time anonymously on PrivateSpeed by using your telephone bill for payment.

In order to use the system, please follow these easy steps:
- Choose your relevant country.
- Simply call the telephone number provided.
- Enter the code given on the screen when prompted to do so.
- Leave the call going while you watch our large selection of hardcore movies.
- When you have seen as much action as you can take, simply hang up the telephone call and you will be logged out of the site.
- Keep in mind: You will only be charged for the duration of your telephone call!

What are the charges on the telephone option?
Once you dial the number given for your country you will hear an automated response telling you the charge you will pay per minute.

My country is not on the list for the dialer?
We currently offer this service in 10 countries: UK, Netherlands, USA, Switzerland, Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Austria and Spain. We will be adding more countries over the coming months.

Downloading DivX™ Movies

Can I download my movie?
Yes. Some of the movies in the Speed catalog are available for DivX™ download.

How do I know which movies I can download?
When looking at the item page for a title, look under the title of the movie. If it has a button "Download DivX", it is available for DivX™ download.

How do I download my movie?
The first step is selecting a movie that is available for download. Look at the item page for the movie you would like to download; if the button says "Download DivX" then it is available for download. You will be given options for either streaming or downloading the DivX movie. Once you have selected your option, if you do not have movie tickets in your account, you will be taken to a page for your credit card details. If you have tickets, you will simply be asked to activate the ticket for you movie. When your card has been approved, you will automatically be redirected to a page and your DivX™ download will start automatically. If you close this page before you begin downloading, please check your email where a link is provided to resume your download again. Please note: You must have the DivX Player™ installed and create a free user account with DivX™ in order to begin viewing your movie.

What is the download speed?
Your download speed is dependant on the speed of your internet connection.

Can I begin watching my DivX movies as it is being downloaded?
You can watch your DivX movie as it downloads to your hard drive and you be able to fast forward and rewind up until the point that your download has occurred. To bein playback while you are still downloading, simply click the "Play" button on your DivX player window.

Once I've downloaded my movie how do I watch it?
After you have downloaded your movie you simply need to double click on the title of the movie in your DivX™ movie directory and login to the DivX™ system. Once your account and license have been verified, you will be able to playback your movie.

Viewing Time

How long can I view my stream?
Once you have activated your streaming movie, you may watch the movie for 7 days. Once 7 days have passed from activation, your license will expire and you will need to purchase the stream or DivX license again for further viewing of that movie.

How long can I view my downloadable movie?
As soon as you purchase your downloadable movie, your viewing time begins. You may watch the movie for 7 days. Once 7 days have passed from the date of purchase, your license will expire and you will need to purchase the movie again for further viewing of that downloadable title.
Note for DivX downloads: Once you have downloaded a title and the license has expired, you will not need to re-download that movie for subsequent purchases. You will only need to re-acquire a license once you have re-purchased the title.

Private Speed Troubleshooting

Who do I contact if I have a problem?
If you have difficulty streaming one of our videos, contact one of our Customer Service Reps for assistance at info@privatespeed.com.

I'm having trouble registering. What am I doing wrong?
First make sure you have cookies enabled.
1. In Microsoft Internet Explorer: Click Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level.
2. From there, scroll down until you see "Cookies," check "Enable" and then click "OK"
3. Make sure you have filled in all fields on our account setup page.

I'm streaming the movie but the picture/sound is choppy or unclear. What can I do?
In most cases, choppy or unclear picture is a problem with your connection speed. To receive the optimal viewing for Private Speed, we recommend that you have a connection speed of 350k or above.

I can see the movie but I can't hear anything. What can I do?
1. First make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Windows Media Player. 2. If that doesn't solve your problem, make sure that you have a connection speed of 350k or above. I can hear the movie but I can't see anything. What can I do?

Yes. As long as you are logged in to your account, you will be able to view your movie from any computer.
